Hellraiser 2022 Review Lady Pinhead really left her mark..In a good way
Tis the season to be scared. It seems that Reboot and retellings of certain films lately. While some have been a mega hit while others have missed the mark and the whole target. I have seen some good reboots and retelling throughout my life. Some were trash and others were pretty good.
But David Bruckner's retelling of Hellraiser hit the mark very well, and it didn't try to retell the entire 1987's original "Hellraiser". instead it gives a more concrete and stylish for fans of the original and for the up and coming horror movie fans.
In the film, Odessa A’zion plays a recovering addict named Riley, who is dealing with her personal demons and the demons that are in the puzzle box. She is dealing with trying to get her life together as she is living with her brother Matt Played by Brandon Flynn, Matt's Boyfriend Collon played by Adam Faison, and their roommate Nora played by Aoife Hinds.
Drew Starkey plays as Riley's Boy "Friend" Travor and I do you that word very lightly, Drag her along with his job in trying to find the Puzzle Box. Hell broke loose the moment the Puzzle box is opened. The Deaths in this movie is well done and it's a beautiful nightmare and I highly agree with the gore hounds, That's brutal and artistic.
However, the movement in the movie is very slow and it does get slightly boring in some parts of the film. But otherwise then that, it's a pretty good film.
Odessa A’zion's Riely is a different kind of "Scream Queen" or the "Final Girl". She's not very likeable compared to some of the scream queen we are used to having throughout the years. She is highly flawed and had hit rock bottom. But That's the type of character that drives this film to the highest level of Dread, Fear, and Hopelessness. I think her action through the film is character progression is a evolution of a hero, who accept her fate and the action that was caused by them.
Overall, I think this is the type of film that can be viewed by the newer generation of Clive Barker Fans and It's a good start. But for the older fan base like me, It's better just enjoy a different idea and perspective for the villains we al fear. They are angles to some after all.
